动趋式的语义研究主要存在两个问题: 动趋式语义类型缺乏客观的判别标准, 语义扩展存在认知型线性扩展与发散性扩展两种不同的方式. 动趋式语义扩展是一种基于原型的隐喻性扩展, 动趋式的语义都是以原型意义为基础, 这些意义之间的联系由意义链实现. 因此, 我们参照Talmy对运动事件概念结构的分析, 结合汉语动趋式的具体情况, 离析汉语动趋式的概念语义成分, 对由25个趋向动词构成的动趋式的语义类型及其扩展路径进行了详细分.
