Seit 2000 Jahren inspirieren Ovids 'Metamorphosen', seine Sagen über den Gestaltwandel von Mensch, Tier und Natur, bildende Künstler: Schon mittelalterliche Buchmaler haben sie ins Bild gesetzt, in Renaissance und Barock wurden sie gerne thematisiert (Bernini und Caravaggio) und auch in der modernen Kunst fanden sie ihre Liebhaber (Picasso und Beckmann).0Ovid selbst mag sich für sein Hauptwerk nicht allein in der Literatur der Griechen, namentlich bei Homer, Anregungen geholt haben, sondern auch in ihrer Kunst.0Christoph Wetzel ordnet in diesem Band 100 Meisterwerke der Kunst von der Antike bis heute ausgewählten Erzählungen Ovids zu und schafft damit reizvolle Paarbeziehungen.
