    Summary note
"Lola Álvarez Bravo (1903-1993) was one of the most prolific Mexican photographers. Her career spanned fifty years and in it she combined commercial practice and teaching along with the exploration of her artistic interests. Lola was extraordinary as a woman and as an artist. Throughout her life she maintained a friendship with a large group of intellectuals and was part of a dynamic circle of artists. She produced countless works by commission for various private and government agencies, as well as taking photographs to satisfy her aesthetic concerns. This book, which in turn forms the catalog of the exhibition presented at the Casa Estudio Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico City, the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, California and the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Arizona, includes a hundred photographs belonging to the González Rendón archive. It is a selection that not only shows the incredible variety of material contained in the file, but also provides new perspectives to know the methods of work used by the artist. The photographs allow a closer approach to the complexity of her work and reveal her interest in surrealism and the avant-garde use of photomontage, as well as her mastery in a variety of genres ranging from portraits of famous intellectuals and close friends to documentary images of Urban and rural poverty in Mexico. The images are accompanied by essays written by curators Adriana Zavala and Rachael Arauz, Latin American art historian James Oles and photography specialists Dina Comisarenco, Karen Cordero, Deborah Dorotinsky, Ana Garduño, Carolina González, Cecilia Olivares, Cristóbal Andrés Jácome, Johanna Spanke and Javier Vázquez"--English translation by translate.google.com from editorialrm.com.
