本书作为西汉区域中心和东汉全国政治, 经济, 文化中心的国都, 在汉文化形成, 发展, 鼎盛, 衰亡的舞台上, 洛阳无疑扮演着重要角色. 新中国成立以来, 洛阳地区发掘出大量的两汉壁画墓与彩绘陶器, 从图像, 色彩的角度, 生动, 直观地诠释了汉文化的起承转合, 不同发展阶段汉人思想观念与审美情趣的变化. 本书试图以两汉彩画为载体, 粗略勾勒出一条汉文化发展演变的轨迹, 在绘画题材的选择上, 走过了一条从神话, 历史到现实的兴衰之路.
