Notes
Includes the Apocrypha.
First edition of the Septuagint printed in England.
Professedly a reprint of the Sixtine text, with the scholia and vriants.
Edited by John Biddle, the Unitarian controversialist, who was imprisoned by the Parliamentary Commissioners for his religious views.
Sometimes styled an octavo; but the wire marks in this copy are horizontal.
Title page in red and black.
R. Bowes (Catalogue of Cambridge books, p. 87) records two varieties of this edition: in A the device on the title is a tree, with the motto pressa emergo; in B the device is a bell, with the letters M and A interlaced. After the printer's name are added the words Prostat autem venale apud Joannem Martin et Jacobum Allestrye, sub signo Campanae in Coemeterio D. Pauli. This copy resembles B, but is without the device.
Following the title page is the dedication, signed R.D., and the preface to the reader. Text in double columns.
Without the appendix containing the scholia, etc., usually found in this edition.
