司空图是晚唐最著名的文学批评家,他倡导诗应有味外之旨,象外之象,景外之景,又提出了"思与境偕"的著名论断,还在"与王驾论诗书"中对唐诗的发展作了最早的系统归纳.他对诗歌理论更大贡献在于运用上述"三外说","总结唐家一代诗"而创作了"二十四诗品",成为中国文学批评史上有里程碑性质的经典著作.本书在前人研究的基础上对司空图的生平经历作了系统考订,多有新见.
