Summary note

Coal started it all and coal shaped Rock Springs and gave it identity. The mines were opened by British miners and worked by men (and boys in the early years) from more that a dozen other lands during a period of nearly 90 years. So the town has been a melting pot of nationalities equalled by few other communities.
