    Summary note
"This book offers a study in the philosophy of liberal religious education. It argues for the importance of attending to questions of religious truth and concomitant questions of truthful living in the context of a pluralistic society." "Traditionally, religious education has been the process whereby a religious community or nation state transmits its core beliefs and values to its children. Across Europe and America this has largely involved the transmission of Christianity. With the emergence of multicultural societies, religious education has been transformed into a process whereby children are informed about different religious traditions, the primary task thereby becoming the moral one of nurturing the twin liberal principles of freedom and tolerance rather than teaching the established religious views."--Jacket.
