Summary note
The speeches and proclamations selected for this book provide readers the opportunity to form connections between the economic, social, political, and cultural events that have taken place in Haiti, and which give the country its unique character. The selections have been chosen mainly to address the areas of history, politics, and economics. This book is not intended to be exhaustive, but rather to present those speeches and proclamations that offer a general, yet precise vision of a particular time period. This is not a work of Haitian history; the goal of this book, rather, is to offer a synthesis of these themes, while presenting as much information as possible.
