Summary note

The edition commemorates the discovery, in 1914, of the Grand Temple of Tenochtitlan through relics, documents and personal objects of the prominent archaeologist and anthropologist Manuel Gamio, the first to find the remains of the Aztec ceremonial precinct. Through new information, participating researchers reconstruct the original research that began a century ago in the space that now occupies the archaeological site. After its discovery, the place was preserved as an archaeological site and years later, a small ethnographic museum was built. In the 1950's a hypothetical model of the sacred precinct of Mexico-Tenochtitlan, designed and constructed by architect Ignacio Marquina was added. It remained unchanged for many years, until a large excavation of the main temple, between the years of 1978 and 1982, performed by the National Institute of anthropology and history (INAH) discovered the impressive monolith of the goddess Coyolxauhqui.
