Notes
  • Thirteen dolls, some of which Appleton used as models for her illustrations in the children's books she worked on with Mrs. H. C. Cradock. From the "Josephine books": Dora, a large doll with a pink dress; Christabel, a small doll with china hands and a head (one armed in the Josephine books); One of the "Korean dolls" in a pink dress; The notorious Quacky Jack duck doll. From "Peggy and Joan": a small blond doll in a black cap and pink dress; and a horse with "Ride a Cock Horse to Banbury cross" printed on its sides similiar to the horses in Peggy and Joan. From "Where the dolls live": Mrs. Smith, a doll with a black bonnet, striped vest, and plaid dress; the rest of the dolls seem unrelated to Appleton's books: a wooden Dutch doll; an Asian girl doll in a pink dress; an asian doll in a floral kimono; the head of an Asian doll with fragments of a blue dress; a doll in a black and yellow striped romper and hat, and doll with long wire legs and arms.
  • Part of the Honor C. Appleton archive and originally housed in an old suitcase with artist's initials stencilled on the top.
