Summary note
Reproduces more than 1600 ephemeral primary source materials documenting the ideas and activities of numerous Brazilian organizations and popular movements which are not available from traditional publications. There are several important events and groups covered in this collection: the collection of pamphlets is strong in materials relating to Environment and Ecology, Human and Civil Rights, Labor and Laboring Classes, and Urban Activism; in the category Political Parties and Issues, there are about 100 flyers, known as "santinhos" related to mayoral and city council elections which are assembled into different groups under the title Elections 2012; the collection of posters brings in materials related to Environment and Ecology; a special subject category called Rio+20 (U.N. Summit) was created for the 2012 supplement and consists of 565 items collected mainly at the People's Summit.
Notes
Material was gathered and organized by the staff of the Library of Congress Office in Rio de Janeiro and microfilmed in cooperation with the Overseas Operations Division and the Preservation Reformatting Division.
The collection is arranged by subject, with fifteen broad topical groups: Agrarian Reform and Land Issues; Children and Youth; Education and Communication; Environment and Ecology; Ethnic Groups: Blacks; Ethnic Groups: Indians; Ethnic Groups: Others; Homosexual and Bisexual; Human and Civil Rights; Labor and Laboring Classes; Political Parties and Issues; Religious Organizations, Ecumenical Groups and Movements; Rio+20; Urban Activism; and, Women and Feminists.
Introductory matter and indexes are filmed on the first reel.
