Summary note
Collection consists of poetry publications, cards, correspondence, and other materials related to Tarasque Press and its founder, poet Simon Cutts. Section 1 focuses on Tarasque Press publications, including the early periodicals "Tarasque" and "Private Tutor," and works by key poets including Simon Cutts, Stuary Mills, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Robert Lax, Roy Fisher, Ian Gardner, and others. Many of these are artists' publications and artists' multiples published in very small editions. Also included are numerous "poetry cards," or small prints and broadsides, by Cutts, Mills, and others. These materials are arranged alphabetically by author and title. The second section includes manuscript materials by Simon Cutts and publisher Brian Lane. After Lane's death in 1999, Simon Cutts' correspondence to Lane, as well as Cutts' publication maquettes and proposals, was given to Cutts by the Lane Estate. This material dates primarily from the 1960s and early 1970s, with some material from the 1970s. Several printed publications by Cutts are also included in the archive. Section 3 consists of later poetry books and cards by Simon Cutts and Stuart Mills, mostly published by Coracle Press and Aggie Weston's from the 1970s onwards. This material is arranged alphabetically by author and title.
