Summary note
The story of how Rumples Rig, a worker in the goods office at a G.W.R. railroad station, meets his wife, Mary Malony the milkmaid, and how their meeting leads to their mutual benefit and happy life together.
Notes
The date is provided by the author's inscription on the cover: Xmas 1921.
On several pages, the remains of pencil written cursive can be seen behind the final pen written block text, sometimes varying in content or position slightly.
The manuscript is handwritten in ink and pencil and hand colored in ink and watercolor.
Includes pasted in bookplate on inside front cover: G.W.R. Wargrave. Wargrave is a town in Berkshire county, southeast England. Given the manuscripts content, it can be assumed that G.W.R. refers to the now defunct Great Western Railway (founded 1833, nationalised at the end of 1947, becoming part of the Western Region of British Railways). G.W.R. opened a railway station in Wargrave in 1900, it was demolished in 1988. It is not known if the station had a library.
GWR can be seen on a piece of paper on the wall in the picture on page [2].
Binding note
Hand colored paper wrappers in ink and watercolor, handstiched binding.
