Summary note
This collection consists of extracts of printed summaries of cases relating to slavery and/or African Americans heard in the Supreme Court of North Carolina between 1866 and 1868, and reported by S.F. Phillips. It comprises cases heard in the court of Raleigh. Topics covered include: slavery, slavery and agriculture, freemen, freed slaves, treatment of slaves, female slaves, wills, plantations, sale of slaves, trading with slaves, emancipation, the US Civil War, and the legacy of slavery.
