Selection of original film footage from the BFI National Archive, in video format. The BFI National Archive (formerly National Film and Television Archive) was established in 1935 and holds footage from the beginning of motion picture production. The selections here include dramatic sequences, actualities, special-effect films, and comedies to illustrate developments in early cinema. Includes the work of D.W. Griffith, Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford, and information about Pathé Frères, Mitchell and Kenyon, Edison and the Kinetoscope Exhibiting Company, American Mutoscope Company, Topical Film, and Hepworth & Co.
