Physical description: 15 lines per page; written in medium angular naskh in black on unglazed, laid Dutch paper. The paper bears the Maid of Dort Pro Patria watermark, which shows a seated maiden holding a hat with the point of a spear next to a rampant lion enclosed with a palisade, along with the initials A.B. Qiraʾat in red. Verses marked with red circles containing the letter ʻayn on every tenth verse. Juzʾ markers in the form of marginal roundels consisting of a yellow circle containing the juzʾ count in red. Surah headings in the form of a panel containing the title in red. Margins ruled with double black lines. Some damp staining and mildewing; a few leaves repaired. In good condition.
Decoration: Opening and closing illuminated bifolia with text panel surrounded by a band of geometric Kufic design made of tiny black and white squares issuing four cusped, triangular projections containing vegetal designs in reserve, further bands of polychrome floral decoration, ruled in gold.
Origin: Likely from the eastern Malay Peninsula, 19th century.

Full brown leather with blind-stamped central mandorla, pendants, cornerpieces and fillets.
