Dated from the 1825 watermark on leaf 4; (Pitts active at 6 Gt. St. Andrew St. address from 1819-1844, cf. Brown, London publishers, p. 151).
First and last leaves laid down to wrappers.
Pastedowns, which are not integral to the text block, are illustrated with boys and girls shaking down letters of the alphabet from the tree of knowledge (front) and a character from the commedia d'el arte (rear).
Second "i" in "Pippins" on title page is number 1, thus: "PIPP1NS"
Binding note
Publisher's pale blue wrappers, upper with star woodcut between cover title and imprint and lower with two cuts and price: "two pence plain; and fourpence coloured."
