Summary note
Copy of the Qurʾān from Indonesia, likely Java, 18th century.
Notes
Ms. codex.
Ms. erroneously foliated beginning on third leaf. Record follows erroneous foliation.
On inside cover, a number of verses selected from the Qurʾān.
On fol. 2bis(a): "al-ṣalāh ʻimād al-dīn" and "iqraʾ al-Qurʾān bi-al-tartīl" in Arabic script; "shalat itu tiang agama" in Western script.
Physical description: 15 lines per page; written in naskh in black on daluang paper. Text framed in triple black lines. Sūrah headings in red; āyahs marked by red circles and ajzāʾ marked by marginal red crescents. Occasional smudging and mild insect damage. In excellent condition.
Decoration: Opening pages (fol. 1b-2a) illuminated with simple floral/foliar designs in gold and color. Closing pages (fol. 245b-246a) illuminated with similar designs.
Binding note
Stiffened maroon leather with blind-stamped central mandorla, pendants, cornerpieces and fillets. Daluang paper doublures.
