Elegant, illuminated copy of the Dīvān of Fatḥ ʻAlī Shāh Qājār.

Ms. codex.
Ms. erroneously foliated beginning on the first flyleaf and including the interleaves. Record follows erroneous foliation.
Physical description: 12 lines per page, in 1-2 columns; written in calligraphic nastaʻliq in black on heavy tan glazed, laid Arabic paper. Catchwords. Text framed in blue, black, and gold lines with outer marginal black and gold frame. Marginal paper repairs to a few leaves; light staining and smudging, most pronounced on fol. 6a. Fol. 4 pasted to another sheet of paper. Fol. 5, 11, 15, 20, 23, 50, 96, 120 are interleaves. Last flyleaf detached.
Decoration: Illuminated ʻunwāns on fol. 4b, 22b in a delicate floral pattern primarily of gold, blue, and maroon; smaller ʻunwāns with similar patterns on fol. 12a, 21a. Space at end of introduction on fol. 10b illuminated with a floral/foliar pattern in gold, blue, pink and green. Space at end of text illuminated with the same pattern as well as two frames illustrating three wolves hunting a gazelle in gold and silver.
Illustrations: On fol. 47b, painting of musicians entertaining a prince and princess. On fol. 97a, the prince and princess share a meal with servants waiting in the wings.
Binding note
Lacquered binding painted as follows: central mandorla and pendants containing flowers and a bird in red and yellow, set within a gold frame with gold corner designs and filled with a gold floral pattern; frame is surrounded by a gold floral/foliar pattern; all on a dark brown background. Spine is orange leather. Lacquered doublures painted with a grouping of flowers on a dark orange background and framed on the edges in gold.
