Illustrations: Most rectos have a full-page ill., variously signed by Barnes, Lawson, Dalziel, Walker, Elwes, and Evans? (E.E), as well as by: WSS, LB, JB, IG, WR, MC, and C.O.M; with smaller wood-engraved ills. and decorated capitals throughout the text.
Date from copyright notice on upper cover; Routledge active as George Routledge and Sons, Ltd. from 1889 onwards (cf. Brown).
Cotsen copy: Some ills. hand-colored, apparently by a child reader.
Cotsen copy: Inscribed on front free endpaper recto: "Blanche, from Fansie."
Cotsen copy: Inscribed in pencil on blank p. [49] in a child's hand: "Faustina Freeman."
Binding note
Pub. chromolithographed paper-covered bds., upper depicting two little girls seated at a table with their cat, signed "copyright 1888 by J.L. Blamire," and lower showing a little girl lying outside while reading a book and being watched by two curious bunnies.
