Summary note
Electronic reproduction of printed ephemera relating to Belle Vue Zoological Gardens in Manchester during the 19th and 20th centuries. Belle Vue was Manchester's principal centre of entertainment and the country's most important provincial zoo. Founded on the eastern side of the city in 1836 by John Jennison (1793-1869), Belle Vue was also famous for hosting numerous other activities and events, including firework displays, brass band contests, ballroom dancing and political meetings. Other attractions included an amusement park, circus and speedway.
