Boer boy is a true story of the experiences of Charles du Preez, a ten-year old farmboy, during the Anglo-Boer War of 1899-1902. He and his father were captured by the British and taken prisoner. They were transported to the prisoner-of-war camps of Umballa and Solon in India. Later in life, Charles du Preez wrote an account of his experiences and the author has used this as well as other oral and documentary sources including a diary written by Charles' mother detailing her experiences during the war.
