An important work on the compilation of the Koran, its various readings and principal readers. In a lengthy introduction the author deals with the importance of reading the Koran, its superiority to all revealed books, the history of its compilation and the various endeavors to keep it unaltered and uncorrupted.

A few marginal notes and glosses. On three folios before the first occur an index and a table of contents (Fihrist qirāʼ al-ʻasharah). On the three folios following the colophon are several samāʻ certificates, one dated 823.
Collation: Paper ; fol. i + 413 + i ; catchwords ; foliation in ink using Hindu-Arabic numerals ; modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals.
Layout: 27 lines per page ; frame-ruled in gold on fol. 4b and 5a, frame-ruled in red throughout the remainder of the text.
Description: Rubricated ; watermarks (roman-alphabet text "R[heart]R" in an oblong with unidentified mark including laurel leaves; roman-alphabet letters "P[flower]R" in oblong with grapes below and crown above) ; MS in very good condition.
Incipit: بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم قال الشيخ الامام شيخ مشايخ الاسلام خاتمة مجتهدى الانام ... و بعد فان الانسان لا يشرف الا بما يعرف ولا يفضل الا بما ععقل ولا ينجب الا بمن يصحب ولما كان القران العظيم كتاب انزل ...

Binding note
Later type II (with flap) binding in brown leather with green leather on spine and connection to flap. Gold-stamped mandorla with gold-tooled edging on covers. Similar decoration on flap. Blue-green paper pastedowns and endpapers. Endbands.
