Fragment from a manuscript of the Qurʾān (28:40 [in part] - 45 [in part]) in early Abbasid script, likely from the 10th century.

  • Ms. leaves.
  • Physical description: 5 lines per page; written in large, early Abbasid script (style B.Vb--see Déroche, F., The Abbasid tradition, no. 56) in dark brown on parchment. Verses marked by gold rosettes; gold medallion in margin of fol. 1a marks verse 40. The vowel signs are dots in red or green. The ḍammah is represented by a dot to the right of the letter, the fatḥah by one over and the kasrah by one below (cf. al-Suyūṭī, Itqān, Cairo, 1925, vol. II, p. 171, 11. 27-8). Extensive water damage.
  • Origin: Likely from the 10th century (compare with Déroche, F., The Abbasid tradition, no. 56).
