Summary note
The lives of eminent men who were the guardians of traditions and preserved them in memory, and of those who used the method of analogy, commencing with the Companions of the Prophet and concluding with Abū al-Faḍl Aḥmad ibn Ḥajar 773-853 [1372-1450]. It is an abridgment of the Ṭabaqāt al-ḥuffāẓ of al-Dhahabī, 748 [1347/8].
Notes
Collation: Paper ; fol. (1) + 145 + (1) ; catchwords ; modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals.
Description: Rubricated ; watermarks ; MS in fair condition but several folios are worm-eaten and some are mended, and some are loose. MS is legible despite extensive staining. MS is rare.
Layout: 25 lines per page.
Marginal notes. The number of each traditionist is written opposite his name. Kabīkaj (invocation against bookworks) on title page.

Origin: According to colophon copied Friday 29 Jumādá I 1117 by Muḥammad ibn Jābir al-Yamanī in al-Madīnah (fol. 145a-b).

Title page has a number of obliterated or partially obscured owner signatures and seal impressions including: ʻAbd al-Karīm ibn Yūsuf al-Anṣārī, and Muḥamad Khālid ... dated 1195 [1780/81]. There is also an obscured tughra. Acquired from Brill, Leyden, 1900.
