Summary note
A "Whoʼs Who" of the Companions of the Prophet, giving their names, genealogies and outstanding events in their lives. It is arranged alphabetically, and the last part is devoted to women Companions.
Notes
Collation: Paper ; fol. 318 + i ; catchwords ; modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals.
Decoration: Illuminated headpiece in gold, blue and red (fol. 3b). Text area on fol. 3b colored light brown. Fol. 3b and 4a frame-ruled in gold and red. Gilt floral decoration on edges of text block.
Description: Rubricated ; MS in fair condition with considerable staining.
Layout: 29 lines per page.
Marginal notes by later hands. Folio before title page records the death of the owner's father in 1221.

Binding note
Type II (with flap) binding in brown leather and green embossed paper. Blind-stamped mandorla with pendants on covers. Multi-colored endbands. Violet paper pastedowns and flyleaves.
Provenance
Title page has a seal impression and ownership signatures: Muḥammad ibn al-Shaykh Muḥammad al-ʻAyyān al-Kaḥḥāl dated 1231, the obscured signature of Muḥammad Bāqir, Muḥammad ʻAlī ibn [Yaḥyá?] Mīrzā [?] with his seal impression, and another seal impression. The folio following the colophon (fol. 318b) has two seal impressions. Acquired from Brill, Leyden, 1900.
