    A biography of the Prophet generally known as al-Sīrah al-Ḥalabīyah, compiled, as stated in the preface, from two previous works,ʻUyūn al-athar fī funūn al-maghāzī wa-al-shamāʼil wa-al-siyar by Ibn Sayyid al-Nās 661-734 [1263-1334] and Subul al-hudá wa-al-rashād fī sīrat khayr al-ʻibād, known as al-Sīrah al-Shāmīyah, by Shams al-Dīn Abū ʻAbd Allāh al-Shāmī, 942 [1536].

    • Collation: Paper ; fol. (2) + 266 + (1), (1) + 326 + (3) ; catchwords ; foliated in ink using Hindu-Arabic numerals in upper right hand corner ; modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals.
    • Description: Rubricated ; important words underlined in red ; watermarks (grapes) ; MS in fair condition but several folios are worm-eaten.
    • Layout: 29 lines per page.
    • Marginal notes and glosses. After colophon in vol. 2 is a partially obscured inscription and a reading statement dated 25 Jumādá I 1193 [6/10/1779]. On a folio after the colophon is a statement about the Prophet, his virtues and his work.
    • Ms. codex.
    • Origin: According to colophon copied 1162 by Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Arīḥāwī, known as Shāriḥ al-Kanz (vol. 2, fol. 326a).

    Binding note
    Type II (with flap) binding in red leather. Quires not sewn. Blind-stamped mandorla with pendants and decorative blind-tooled edging on covers and flap. Each volume in a case (217 x 170 mm. and 216 x 160 mm.) of red leather with a pull strap bearing title and number of volume.
    Provenance
    The title page of both volumes have the ownership signature of Muḥammad ibn Saʻīd ibn al-Sharīf Surūr, other obscured ownership signatures and a seal impression. Acquired from Brill, Leyden, 1900.
