Notes
"A pretty present as a Christmas Box or New Years gift" --After title, between 2 horizontal rules.
A different setting of type, with differing woodcut head- and tailpieces, than Baldwin's 1751 ed.
Tentatively dating from the 1751 publication date of another Cotsen ed. and terminal date suggested by C.Y. Ferdinand ("Richard Johnson Junior, Bookseller," in Studies in Bibliography, no. 89, p. 259).
Engraved frontispiece and title page, both printed in red and black.
"Price six pence" -- At foot of title page.
"Printed according to Act of Parliament" --At head of frontispiece.
Title page epigram: "Example draws where precept fails. / And sermons are less read than tales / Mat. Prior."
Illustrations: Engraved title page and frontispiece (depicting a Peaceable Kingdom scene), woodcut vignettes at the the head of fables and tales, and decorative woodcut headpiece at the head of riddles.
Signatures: A-H⁸ (this copy lacking (H2-H7).
Cotsen copy: Lacking pages 115-126 (H2-H7), with page numbers apparently clipped on pages 114 and 127.
Cotsen copy: Inscribed on front pastedown: "Sarah Snee"; also inscribed in pencil on the facing page: "Elizabeth Bray..." [?].
Cotsen copy: Pen trials on front pastedown and facing free endpaper and on rear pastedown.
