Notes
Cover title; imprint from front pastedown, which also has small graphical Tuck "R T & S" trademark.
Caption title for poem: The little wooden soldier of the toy army.
Date based on the opening of Tuck's Berlin and Montreal offices in 1907 and imprint wording ("Their Majesties..."), used until 1910 (cf. Whitton, B. & M., Collector's guide to Raphael Tuck & Sons, p. 6).
Four pages of verse about a wooden toy soldier, preceded by front pastedown leaf of instructions for assembling the soldiers on the 5-leaf chromolithograph accordion-fold that follows, which picture British hussars and guardsmen, and 1 additional leaf of green bases for them; the 6-leaves open to 45 cm.
Text printed on both sides of thin paper, with soldiers chromolithographed on one side of cardboard in style and poses of soldiers similar to the lead figures produced by Wm. Britain in the same era.
Poem begins: "Only a little wooden soldier, / Ready the foe to fight, / Battling for King and Country, / Striving with all his might".
Accordian-fold includes a small shield numbered "5," perhaps a series or manufacturer number; cf. Tuck's similarly-formatted Beauty and the beast, also in Father Tuck's "panorama" series, which has a similar shield numbered "6".
Binding note
Pub. stiff chromolithographed upper wrapper, showing a mounted officer in a plumed cocked hat and a standing guardsman, attached to accordion fold with binder's tape, with unprinted side of the last leaf serving as plain lower wrapper.
