"The Kitāb al-Fāʼiq fī uṣūl al-dīn ... is the only complete treatise extant on the theology of the last school of the Muʻtazila, founded by Abu l-Ḥusayn Muḥammad b. ʻAlī al-Baṣrī .... Al-Fāʼiq is an abridgement [sic] of the four huge volumes of al-Muʻtamad [fī uṣūl al-dīn] divided into fourteen parts"--P. i, etc. (English introd.). Only parts of al-Muʻtamad fī uṣūl al-dīn are extant.
