Notes
A color intaglio print (featuring etching, stipple engraving, and line engraving techniques) with color applied a la poupée and hand-coloring. Printed on a laid paper sheet cut into a semicircle, probably intended to be mounted as a hand fan.
The scene depicts a mother in an empire gown seated on a bank under a tree presenting a book (inscribed "Télémaque", i.e, Les Aventures de Télémaque (1699) by François Fénelon) to her son, while her husband and daughter (holding a doll) look on. A large Punch doll hangs from a tree while a drum and diabolo are on the ground.
Date range from period dress.
