Notes
  • The controversy between Rev. Roger Baxter, S.J. (M.B.), and Rev. W.H. Wilmer, Episcopal minister of St. Paul's Church, Alexandria (Quæro) was carried on from May 9-Dec. 1, 1817, with Baxter's letters published in the Alexandria gazette, and Wilmer's in the Alexandria herald. The editor of this compilation, who states on p. vii that he "is unconnected either with M.B. or Quæro, and neither of them have had any thing to do with this work," is G.E. Ironside. See Parsons, W. Catholic Americana, no. 542.
