Notes
"Designed in England, Printed in Holland"--Upper wrapper.
4 bifolds, printed on both sides, with first and last leaves fastened to wrappers, with small cut-out windows, through which are viewed letters on 6 concentric letter-wheel volvelles (three attached to each wrapper), which can be turned to spell out items pictures; 6 letters at a time can thus be viewed.
Also published in French under the title: "Ba, Be, Bi, Bo" by A. Capendu of Paris (cf. Cotsen 16127), which credits Emrik & Binger as printer; the only change (apart from title and imprint) is the addition of English to some labels and signs depicted within the illustrations (e.g. the ink bottle, or "butter" sign); since many of the objects shown seem to be better accommodated in the 6-letter slots in French (e.g. hiboux/owl, oiseau/bird, tasse/cup), than in English, this English version would seem to the reprint, and the French ed. the original.
Binding note
Pub. stiff beige glazed wrappers, with pictorial chromolithographs, upper showing students, objects, and a bearded, Biblical-looking teacher, and lower showing a boy holding this book opened up.
