    Notes
    • A circular engraved plate with dozens of tiny vignettes illustrating scenes from the fables of La Fontaine.
    • At the center of the print is a column with a full-length portrait of Aesop on the shaft and a bust of La Fontaine on the capital. Below this figure is the engraver's signature, "le Cte de Paroy," i.e. Jean-Philippe Guy le Gentil, and the date 1789. The comte de Paroy was celebrated as a miniaturist, of which this print is a marvelous example.
