Summary note
Last part of a commentary on al-Hidāyah, a commentary by ʻAlī ibn Abī Bakr al-Marghīnānī (d. 593/1197) on his compendium of Ḥanafī law, Bidāyat al-mubtadiʼ fī furūʻ al-fiqh al-Ḥanafī. This part comprises the text from Kitāb al-ʻĀriyah to the end.

Physical description: 27 lines per page. Written in black ink with use of red. The text is framed within a single line in red. Ḥāshiyah on the margin attributed to Saʻdī Çelebi and others. Light cream paper, glossy, with chain lines visible (in groups of three). Table of contents on fol. 5b. Several inscriptions on fol. 3b-6a, including verses of poetry in Ottoman Turkish and kabīkaj. Title on tail of textblock. Majority of quinions.
Decoration: Basmalah written in white outlined in black on a gold ground with scroll in black in a cartouche. The cartouche is outlined in blue ink and is set on a ground left plain, defined by a frame in blue and gold (fol. 6b).
Collation: Paper, fol. 295 ; i (fly-leaf with inscriptions; European paper; fol. 1 in the modern foliation) 1² (later addition with inscriptions; European paper) 2-30¹⁰ ii (fly-leaves; European paper) ; catchword on the verso of each leaf ; traces of quire numbering, apparently cut off due to the trimming of the pages (see "20" on fol. 194a).
Inscription in Arabic script on fol. 1a: "Numrah 15" and "Ṣāḥib-i sharīf".
Origin: The date 963 H. is written at the end of the copy ("tanmīq", with colophon partly in Ottoman Turkish, fol. 292a)

Binding note
Brown leather over paper pasteboards for covers and flap. Upper and lower covers have a blind stamped central scalloped mandorla filled with a floral pattern and outlined in gold with radiating flecks. The outer border consists of blind tooled fillets and a gilt guilloche, outlined in gold. Similar border on the envelope flap, with smaller stamp with similar pattern and outline. Fillets on the fore-edge flap. Paper pastedowns.

Ownership statement in the name of Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad mudarris in the Madrasat Shāh Sulṭān, with almond shaped seal, and impression of another seal (circular with inscription reading: "al-Qāḍī Muṣṭafá ibn ʻAlī") on fol. 2a. Two impresions of an oval seal on fol. 6a. Acquired by Robert Garrett from Brill, Leyden, 1925, from the books of Murād Bey al-Bārūdī (Beirut).
