Summary note
Commentary on Lubb al-albāb fī ʻilm al-iʻrāb, a treatise on grammar by Tāj al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Isfarāʾinī (d. 684/1285). The commentary is dedicated to Abū Ṭalib ibn ʻAlī ibn Muḥammad (see fol. 3a, last 2 lines). On the commented text, see also Mach, R. Yahuda, no. 3584.

Physical description: 19-21 lines per page. Script changes from fol. 43a on. Light cream paper, glossy, with laid and chain lines visible. Ḥāshiyah on the margin. Several inscriptions on fol. 2a, including ownership statements and magic script. Modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals (omits the first folio). Quinions. Loose leaves ; stained with water and humidity, with some loss of text (see fol. 30b).
Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the pastedown of the upper cover: "Raqm 400" (no. "660" in Western numerals underneath, crossed out). Number 660 on fol. (i)a, crossed out.
Origin: According to colophon, copied by Yūsuf(?) ibn ʻAzīz ibn Khalīl, and completed on a Friday in Ṣafar 852 [1448], in Madrasat Üsküb [Skopje] (fol. 160b).
Incipit: بسم ... وبه نستعين الحمد لله قاشع غمام الغموم ... وبعد فان لب الالباب فى علم الاعراب لا يخفى على ذوى الالباب انه كثير الفوايد جم العوايد ... [3ب] ... بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم الحمد هو الثناء على الجميل من جهة التنظيم ... الموجد من العدم اى من غير سبق بمادة ومدة المستاثر اى المستبد بالقدم

Binding note
Dark brown leather over paper pastedowns for upper and lower covers. The covers are similarly blind-stamped. Damaged.
