Title from colophon (fol. 81a).
Physical description: 23 lines per page. Written in medium small naskh in black ink with use of red for entries (space left blank in the middle of the copy). Dark cream paper, glossy, with laid and chain lines visible, the latter in groups of three. Important ḥāshiyah on the beginning of the text. Short excerpts and inscriptions in black and red ink on fol. 1a and 81b-82a, including a quotation of the entry on the book and its author from Kātib Çelebi (fol. 81b). Modern purple pastedown and free endpaper, half-covering a previous pastedown of the upper cover, with table of contents. Foliation in black ink using Arabic numerals. Before the original text-block are two leaves, the free endpaper in purple paper and an added fly-leaf on European paper, with title written by a modern hand.
Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the upper cover: "Uṣūl 31". Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the pastedown of the upper cover: "Ḥ 64".
Origin: According to colophon, copy completed on the night of Sunday, 1 ("ghurrah) Jumādá al-Ūlá 760 [March 31, 1359], by ʻUthmān ibn Ṭawrah Faqīh ibn al-Ḥājāt(?) (fol. 81a).
Incipit: الخير ذاتك اللهم يا واجب الوجود والفيض شعارك يا واسع الرحمة والجود ... واستصحب توفيقك فيما جمعه والفه قد منحتك ايها الطالب لنهاية الوصول الى علم الاصول بهذا الكتاب البديع فى معناه المطابق اسمه لمسماه
Explicit: والنصّ المختصر والمطول واحد والقلة والكثرة صورة و الترجيح ليس الا بالمعانى والله الموفق بمنه وكرمه والمتم بارادته وامره
Binding note
Brown leather over paper pasteboards for upper and lower covers. Both covers have a central blind stamped scalloped mandorla filled with an arabesque with floral motifs, and an outer border consisting of blind fillets.
