Summary note
From the publisher. This volume contains a critical edition of two previously unedited anonymous poems, the Liber prefigurationum Christi et Ecclesie and the Liber de gratia Novi Testamenti. Both works seem to have been written in France during the reign of King Philip I (1060-1108). The Liber prefigurationum is a compendium of biblical typology. It versifies the most salient episodes of the Old Testament, from Genesis to Maccabees, as prefiguring the incarnation of Christ and the foundation of the Christian Church. The Liber de gratia presents the life of Christ from the point of view of its significance for all believers. Both poems are meant to educate their readers and guide them on their journey towards moral improvement and ultimate salvation.
Notes
Critical edition of two anonymous Latin poems.
The Supplementum "supplements the 2007 edition of the two anonymous poems Liber prefigurationum Christi et Ecclesie and Liber de gratia Noui Testamenti. It offers a number of improvements at various levels to the original edition. The main witness of the text has been re-examined, which has resulted in the uncovering of some complementary readings, especially in the Liber de gratia. A completely revised edition of this text has been printed, together with complete new indices to both poems."--Publisher's website.
