    First volume of al-Kashshāf, comprising the text from Sūrat Fātiḥat al-Kitāb to Sūrat al-Anʻām.

    • Ms. codex.
    • Title from colophon (fol. 267b).
    • Physical description: 23 lines per page. Written in medium small naskh (professional hand) in black ink with use of red. Dark cream paper, glossy with thin laid lines visible. Some leaves friable. Marginal annotations. Sheet of European paper with watermark, with text, placed between fol. 112 and 113. After fol. 267 are two later added fly-leaves of European paper. Three leaves with text, apparently from another volume, are placed between the fly-leaves and the lower cover. Two first leaves badly damaged with loss of text. Disbound.
    • Origin: According to colophon, copy completed on Tuesday 22 Rabīʻ al-Awwal 684 [May 28, 1285] by [---] Muḥammad [---] ibn al-Ḥasan [---] al-Hamadānī (fol. 267b, partly erased due to water damage).
    • Incipit: الحمد لله الذى انزل القران كلاما مولفا منظما ونزله بحسب المصالح منجما وجعله بالتحميد مفتتحا ... وبعد اعلم ان متن كل علم وعمود كل صناعة طبقات العلماء فيه متدانية
    • Explicit: سبعون الف ملك لهم زحل بالتسبيح والتمحيد فمن قرا الانعام صلى الله عليه وسلم واستغفر له اوليك السبعون الف ملك بعد ذلك اية من سورة الانعام يومًا وليلة والحمد لله رب العالمين
    Binding note
    Brown leather over paper pasteboards for upper and lower covers. The upper cover has a large blind-stamped central lobed mandorla, outlined in gold. Edges damaged. Re-used paper pastedown on upper cover, with short texts and inscriptions.

    Several ownership statements, some with seals, on fol. 1a, in the name of Murtaḍá al-Ḥusaynī Alān-e Barāghūshī ; Ibn Mīr Murtaḍá [--- (obliterated)] Alān-e Marāghūshī, etc. Acquired from Abraham Shalom Yahuda, 1942.
