Summary note

Defective copy of a collection of forty ḥadīth, the text between end of the third ḥadīth and end of the sixth ḥadīth, and the last ḥadīth wanting.

• Title from title page (fol. 1a, in red ink).
• Physical description: 17 lines per page. Written in medium small square naskh in black ink with use of red for headings and re-inking. Yāʼ for alif maqṣūrah. Thick, cream paper, glossy, hardly translucid, with pulp and a few lines visible. Catchword on the verso of each leaf. The quires are numbered using Arabic ordinals, in the form "al-Thānī min al-Arbaʻīn" (fol. 9a) or "al-Rābiʻ" (fol. 29a). Several inscriptions on fol. 1a, including two fāʼidah. Inscriptions on the pastedown of upper cover. Leaves missing between fol. 4 and 5 and between fol. 29 and 30.
• Reading statement by Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Ayyūb al-ʻAmrī, with the shaykh Shihāb al-Dīn --- on the margin of fol. 14a. See also inscription on the margin of fol. 30b.
• Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the pastedown of upper cover: "Raqm 344".
• Origin: Copied for himself (li-nafsih) by Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Ayyūb al-Fuwwī(?) ---(?) al-Shāfiʻī al-Qādirī(?), who completed his work on Thursday 25 Shaʻbān 8-2 (Mach reads 852) [Oct. 24, 1448] in the Jāmiʻ al-Azhar (colophon, fol. 30b).
• Incipit: الحمد لله الذي علا بصفاته المباينة بصفات المخلوقات وارسل سيدنا محمدا صلى الله عليه وسلم بالايات البينات وايده بالمعجزات الباهرة ... اما بعد فهذه اربعون حديثا من مروياتي العاليات اقتصرت فيها على اعلى انواع التحمل وهو السماع دون الاجازات والمناولة والوجادات
• Explicit: وله الحمد والثنا وان كنت مقرا بالعجز عند ثنا وعلى خير خلقه صلوات وسلام منه بغير انقضا تمت بحمد الله وعونه وليكون هذا اخر الاربعين
