Summary note
The collection consists of newspapers from across Venezuela, but primarily from Caracas, that are published outside of the mainstream and commercial media. The collection is divided into two secitons: alternative and community newspapers, and university newspapers. The publications have a decidedly leftist orientation towards political, social and economic issues in contemporary Venezuela. Publication and interest in alternative news sources, media and social outlets with socialists leanings have increased dramatically with the election of Venezuela President Hugoa Chavez in 1998.
