Summary note
This collection consists of flyers, pamphlets, posters, serials, ballots, and monographs all documenting political activities and organizations in Venezuela from 1978 to 2004. Many of the materials were produced after the election of Hugo Chavez as President in 1998, his reelection in 2000 following the drafting of a new constitution, and the 2004 referendum, which Chavez also won. Other general, legislative and local elections are also documented. The bulk of the material concerns the legislative, legal and political activities with Chavez's arrival, and how government sponsored social programs have been received and implemented by the public. The collections includes reports, opinions, critiques and various other statements from a variety of political actors, ranging from government ministries to socialist and communist political parties to workers unions and universities. The majority of the material was published in the capital, Caracas.
