Treatise in thirteen chapters (bāb, see table of contents in the preamble, fo. 3a-b) on religious life from a Ḥanbalī point of view.

Title from title page (fol. 1a).
Physical description: 21 lines per page. Written in medium large naskh in black ink with use of red for headings and overlining. Large red dots text-stops. Cream paper, glossy, with laid and chain lines visible. Laid lines visible on the surface. Some leaves are dyed in orange. The first leaves are damaged from dampness. Fol. 1: wear, some small losses.
Two spine labels (vertical), the first one reading "Ighāthat al-lahfān fī maṣāyid al-Shayṭān" (in Arabic script), the second "317" (in Arabic and Western numerals).
Collation: Paper, fol. ii, 342 + ii ; ii (modern paper) 1¹⁰ (+2) 2-31¹⁰ 32-33¹² 34 (6 leaves) ii (European paper with watermark) ; catchword on the verso of each leaf ; the quires are numbered using Arabic ordinals in the form "thānī" (see fol. 13a).
Origin: Copy completed on Friday 3 Shaʻbān 790 [August 1388] in Damascus by ...? [Hitti reads Jalāl] ibn ʻAbd Allāh al-Ḥanbalī.
Incipit: الحمد لله الذي [---] لاوليا [---] نعوت جلاله وانار قلوبهم بمشاهد صفات كماله ... [2أ] ... اما بعد فان الله سبحانه لم يخلق خلقه سدًي مهملًا بل جعلهم مورّدًا للتكليف
Explicit: ويهتدي بها من اراد الله هدايته من طالبي الحق من هذه الامّة وبالله التوفيق
Binding note
Yellow paper pasted over brown leather on paper pasteboards for upper and lower covers and envelope flap. Leather spine and fore-edge flap. Fore-edge flap blind-tooled with fillets and impressions of a rosette stamp. Similar blind-tooling on covers and envelope flap. Paper pastedowns (leather doublure on the fore-edge flap and the edges). Modern endpapers at front ; European paper with watermark endpapers at end.
