Summary note
Wooden tablet, of a kind found in Qurʼanic schools in many parts of the world, with text from the Qurʼan on both sides. The date is unknown. Such tablets are typically written by the students themselves, before their teachers review them to make corrections. Traces of an older text are visible indicating re-use.
Notes
  • Description: Tapered rectangular wooden paddle with handle. Base to top of handle: 783 mm; width at base of paddle: 245 mm; width at top of paddle: 175 mm. 4 mm thick. Written on both sides.
  • Text: Flat side begins with the first few verses of Sūrat al-Taghābun followed by numerous iterations of the basmalah and a short verse on the remainder of this side and on the reverse.
