First part of Zamakhsharī's commentary of the Qurʼān, comprising the text up to the end of sūrat al-Baqarah (2) and a ḥāshiyah on the margins.

Title from tail of text block.
15 lines per page. Written in tawqīʻ(?) in black ink with use of red. Marginal and interlinear annotations. Thin biscuit paper with pulp and laid lines visible. The text proper starts on fol. 1b. Several short notes on fol. 1a. Short text on fol. 297b. Foliation in Arabic numerals. Some leaves are mended. Worm eaten -- extremely fragile.
Two modern spine labels (vertical), with inscriptions reading respectively "al-Qiṭʻah al-ūlá min al-Kashshāf" in Arabic script, and "280" in Arabic and Western numerals.
Copied for himself by Kamāl ibn QWLʻR(?) on 17 Rabīʻ al-Ākhar 794 [March 1392] (colophon, fol. 297a).
Incipit: الحمد لله الذي انزل القران كلاما مؤلفا منظما ونزله بحسب المصالح ... ... [2ب] ... اعلم انّ متن كل علم وعمود كل صناعة طبقات العلماء فيه

Binding note
Brown leather over paper pasteboards for upper and lower covers, fore-edge flap and envelope flap. The covers have an outer frame made of fillets. Leather doublure. Upper cover disbound.
