Title from title page (fol. 2a). The name of the author also appears as "al-Ḥāfiẓ al-ʻallāmah Taqī al-Dīn Abū ʻAmr ʻUthmān Ibn al-Ṣalāḥ" in a note by a later hand on fol. 1a (later added free endpaper).
17 lines per page. Written in angulous medium small naskh in black ink with use of red. Dark cream paper with laid and chain lines visible. Marginal annotations and collation notes. Water damage affecting the last line of most folios. Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the upper cover: "Muṣṭalaḥ". Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the pastedown of the upper cover: "Ḥāʼ 205".
Copy completed on 6 [Dhū] al-Ḥijjah 800 in al-Masjid al-Aqṣá al-Sharīf by Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʻAlī al-Baghdādī al-Shāfiʻī (colophon, fol. 163a).
Collation: Paper, fol. 163, ii ; 1-15¹⁰ 16¹⁰ (+3, after fol. 160) + ii (endpaper; European paper) ; catchword on the verso of each leaf ; the quires are numbered using Arabic numerals.
Incipit: الحمد لله الهادي مَن اشتهداه الواقي مَن اتّقاه ... هذا وانّ علم الحديث من افضل العلوم الفاضلة وانفع الفنون النافعة
Explicit: وعبد الرحمن بن بشر فشيخنا ومَن بينهما اجمعون نيسابوريون ولله سبحانه الحمد الاتم على ما اسبغ من افضاله والصلاة والسلام الافضلان على سيدنا محمد [163أ] وآله وعلى ساير النبيين وال كل نهاية ما يسال السايلون وغاية ما يامل الاملون امين اخر الكتاب
Binding note
Brown leather over paper pasteboards for upper and lower covers, fore-edge flap and envelope flap. Blind stamped simple central mandorla and outer frame consisting of blind tooled filets for each cover. Similar border on the envelope flap, with a portion of the same central stamp on its point. European paper pastedowns and endpapers. Marbled paper doublure for envelope flap.
