Summary note

A commentary on Wiqāyat al-riwāyah fī masāʼil al-Hidāyah, a work on fiqh by the author's grandfather, Maḥmūd ibn Ṣadr al-Sharīʻah al-Maḥbūbī (d. 1274 or 5). As for the work itself, Wiqāyat al-riwāyah is an epitome of the work called al-Hidāyah by ʻAlī ibn Abī Bakr al-Marghīnānī (d. 1196 or 7).

• Copy completed in Rabīʻ al-Awwal 896 (1491) by Mūsá bin [Ḥaqīr bin Ṣafā?] -- colophon (fol. 220a).
• 19 lines per page. Written in small nastaʻlīq in black ink with use of red. Catchwords on the verso of each folio. Foliation in Western numerals in pencil. Dark cream glazed paper with visible laid lines, but not all of the ms. is of the same age, as there are many sections throughout which are later replacements on a different, glazed European paper. Ff. 3b-4a have a table of contents in red and black ink. Some marginal annotations. Fol. 3a has a calendar from Birgivî Mehmet Efendi's Gurrename.

Binding note

Dark burgundy leather with blind tooled panel design on covers, made with large central mandorlas and fillets around borders and four lines radiating from the mandorla towards the edges of covers. Spine repaired with black buckram. Some worm damage to the binding. Endleaves in light peach paper.
