    Summary note
    Translation into Ottoman Turkish of Jāmī's Nafaḥāt al-uns min ḥaḍarāt al-quds, a biographical dictionary of Sufis. Completed, according to the text, in Rajab 920 (1514) -- see end of text (fol. 426b).

    • Copied by 'Muḥammad' in 990 (1582 or 83) -- colophon (fol. 426b).
    • 21 lines per page. Written in elegant small naskh in black ink with use of red. Text written within a gold leaf frame outlined in black ink. On first two pages of text (ff. 11b and 12a), the frame also has blue ink outline. Illuminated head piece on fol. 11b, beatifully executed in gold leaf and blue watercolor, with a floral design made with gold, orange, purple, white and green watercolors. Catchwords on the verso of each leaf. Ff. 2b-10b have a table of contents in black and red ink, outlined in gold leaf. Glazed light cream paper with visible chain lines (except for the paper of contents leaves which is dark cream with more prominent fibres). Ownership statement in the name of Ismāʻīl SipāhīʹZādah ʻUmar on fol. 11a. in same hand and ink as the inscription containing the name of the work on fol. 2a.

    Binding note
    Dark brown leather with envelope flap. Central mandorlas, blind stamped and colored in gold and red ink, on covers and the envelope flap. Gold guilloche and fillet around borders of upper and lower covers and the envelope flap. Fore-edge flap has a blind tooled panel design made with fillets and small rosetta stamps. Spine repaired in dark burgundy and red leather. Endleaves and envelope flap lining in thick glazed paper painted in light green and decorated with a border in gold and dark green ink and foliage motifs in gold ink in the centre. Lining to fore-edge flap in dark green fabric.
