Origin: Copy completed on Sunday, the day before the last day [28?] of Jūmādá al-Ulá 930 [April 3, 1524] by Mūsá ibn ʻAbd al-Qādir al-Sunbulāwaynī al-Shāfiʻī, from a copy made from an autograph (colophon, fol. 141a).
Incipit: الحمد لله المتنزه عن الاشباه والانساب واشهد ان لا اله الا الله وحده لا شريك له ... هذا ما اشتدت اليه حاجة المحدث اللبيب من مختصر في الانساب واف بالمقصود.
Explicit: قال مؤلفه خاتمة الحفاظ والايمة المجتهدين جلال الدين ابو الفضل عبد الرحمن السيوطي الشافعي ... وهذا اخر الكتاب ولله الحمد قال مختصره عبد الرحمن بن ابي بكر السيوطي ... اختصرته في عشرة ايام متوالية اخرها يوم الاثنين سابع عشر صفر سنة ثلاث وسبعين وثمان ماية من نسخة صحيحة مقابلة على اصل ابن الاثير وفي اخرها ما نصه فرغ منه مؤلفه يوم الثلاثا لعشر باقين من جمادي الاولي سنة خمس عشرة وستمايه ... وقد استقصيت انا في هذا المختصر كثيرا مما فاتهما واستدركت منه جمعا جما وغالب ما زدته من معجم البلدان لياقوت الحموي رحمة الله تعالي عليهم اجمعين والحمد لله وحده ... وصحبه وسلم انتهي.
Binding note
Type II (with flap) binding in brown leather over paper pasteboards. Both covers have a similar central blind-tooled and gold painted mandorla with two pendants on the vertical axis inscribed within a single gold painted fillet and an elaborate outer frame consisting of blind-tooled fillets and running patterns. The envelope flap has a similar frame with a smaller blind-tooled and gold painted motif on its pointe. Embossed leather doublure. Spine and fore-edge flap repaired.
